My personal journey and why I choose Transcendental Meditation.

In an earlier blog, I wrote about Transcendental Meditation, or TM. I told you about its origins, how it works, and its health benefits.

Now I’d like to share my personal journey with TM, as well as why I started in the first place.

Looking for balance

About two years ago, after I’d been working in a corporate job for more than 18 years, I realized I needed to find a new way to live. I’d been focusing on my career rather than my health and family, particularly my young son. My schedule had gotten so bad that my friends eventually stopped calling and asking me to go to birthday parties because they knew I was busy with work and I wouldn’t be able to make it.

As a single parent, I felt a lot of pressure to be able to spend time with my little boy. I felt that I was not able to focus on my son or dedicate my time to him due to constantly thinking about my job. I started talking about my stress with people, sharing my anxiety and worry about not being there for my son when he needed me, and I began looking for a different job, something that would give me some balance between my work and home life.

Finding my values

In the process of talking with people about my frustrations, I began to discover not only myself, but my values: what’s important to me, and how I want to live my life.

Constant tiredness

Still, though, my body and mind were perpetually tired. I was pushing myself to do any small activity with my son or my friends. I was always trying to run through my job as quickly as possible in order to get home to spend some time with my family. Of course, this meant that I wasn’t able to focus on my job and perform at my best, nor I was able to dedicate myself to my son and to be there when he needed me.

With all of these things running through my head, I decided to do something about my wellness and try meditation to help me with my stress, anxiety, and self-development.

Trying TM

When I heard about TM, the first thing that came to my mind was, “Who could find time, twice a day, to meditate?” But after reading some reviews and listening to a few people talk about the benefits of the practice and how much it changed their lives, I thought, “Well, it’s working for them, so it might work for me!” I made the decision to try it and hopefully change things for both myself and my child.

The benefits of TM

Ever since I made the decision to try TM, I have had a much calmer approach to life and my surroundings. I learned how to RESPECT MY BODY AND MY MIND! I still have much more to learn about life, but I’m now open to new challenges.

I love the afternoon meditation; it helps me to recharge my body for the afternoon and night routine. I notice how I’m more productive in these afternoon hours, whereas before I would have something for afternoon tea—usually chocolate or Coca-Cola—to give me that ‘energy boost.’ As you could probably guess, that boost would last for all of an hour and then I’d be back to feeling tired and unable to focus.

Over the past few years, since I started my TM practice, I’ve noticed my positive energy return, and I’m consistent at work and at home.

TM can work for you, too

If TM worked for me, it can surely work for you, too. The changes TM made to my life show that you, too, can incorporate daily TM sessions into your busy life and enjoy the same benefits for your health and well-being.
